Republic FC fall on the road to the 2019 USL title-winners
June 10, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Republic FC's fourth game in a dozen days resulted in a 2-0 loss on the road to a Real Monarchs side that had seven members from its MLS Club in the midweek roster.
The match was former SRFC Academy players Rafael Jauregui and Nabi Nibunguchy's first start for the Indomitable Club in 2021. The nod in the starting eleven was Nabi's first-ever professional start.
After a three-game homestand in Sacramento, the boys in Old Glory Red hit the road for the first time since the May 22 fixture against Orange County SC. The match was the first of two away games before returning home on June 26.
The Indomitable Club was also missing three players who were called away on international duty, with Kharlton Belmar summoned into Grenada National Team service, Rafa Diaz called-up by the Dominican Republic and Shannon Gomez earning his first World Cup Qualifier call-up with Trinidad and Tobago.
On the night, Real Monarch's Milan Iloski bagged a brace in the opening half which ultimately proved to be the difference for Mark Briggs' men.
Despite the result, SRFC's Mitchell Taintor made a number of positive contributions including leading the squad in touches (78), total aerial duels (4), passes (69), successful passes (60), clearances (3) and interceptions (2).
In net, Republic FC goalkeeper Tomas Gomez made three saves to keep his side within striking distance during the match.
The Indomitable Club continues the current two-game road trip on June 19 when SRFC pays a visit to Oakland Roots SC.
