Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Geneva, Ill. - For the second straight day, Bowling Green (30-25) put up a crooked number in the top of the fourth inning, but the momentary lead evaporated, as Kane County (27-28) chased Brent Honeywell after just 4.0 innings of work and scored in four consecutive frames to salvage the finale of the three-game set, 5-3, and end the Hot Rods three-game win streak in front of 4,822 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark Friday evening.

Down 2-0 with one out in the top of the fourth inning, Casey Gillaspie delivered his second home run in as many days and 11th of the campaign, marking the fourth time this season a Hot Rod has done so, off Cougars starter Markus Solbach to cut the deficit in half to 2-1. Justin Williams and Bralin Jackson followed Gillaspie with a single and a walk, and after Mac James grounded out, Hunter Lockwood doubled down the left-field line to plate Williams and Jackson, giving the Hot Rods a 3-2 lead.

Kane County equalized in the bottom half of the fourth, when Ryan Gebhardt walked, Colin Bray singled with one out, and Victor Reyes knocked a two-out RBI single into right field to score Gebhardt, tying the game at 3-3.

Honeywell was lifted after the fourth inning, allowing three total runs - two of them earned due to a first inning error - on five hits, while striking out six and walking one in a no-decision.

Stryker Trahan re-gave Kane County the lead in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a sacrifice fly off Hunter Wood resulting in the 4-3 Cougars edge.

Kane County plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, also off Wood, when Regis hit a sacrifice fly to left field, 5-3 Cougars.

Wood (0-2) lost just his second decision of the season, lasting only 2.0 innings out of the bullpen, surrendering four hits and the two runs while walking one and striking out a pair. Edgar Gomez tossed the final 2.0 innings for Bowling Green, giving up just one hit while also striking out two.

Aside from the fourth inning, Bowling Green could not figure out Markus Solbach (5-2), who tossed 6.1 innings of six-hit, three-run ball, despite striking out just two and walking one. Steve Hathaway and Zac Curtis combined for 2.2 innings of perfect baseball, nullifying any comeback hopes for the Hot Rods, with Curtis earning his league-best 11th save of the year.

Jackson extended his career-long hitting streak to 13 games, recording his eighth multi-hit effort during the stretch by going 2-for-3.

Bowling Green now heads to Clinton, Iowa for a three-game series against the Clinton Lumberkings (Mariners). Greg Harris (2-4, 2.51) makes the game one start for Bowling Green opposing Clinton's Zack Littell (1-0, 2.11) in a 6:30 p.m. CDT start time.
