June 5, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lake County Captains News Release
(Appleton, WI) -One night after pounding out sixteen hits to get a win, the Lake County Captains showed they can win a pitcher's duel as well. Captains All-Star Justus Sheffield picked up his fifth win of the season as he held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in check on the way to a 4-1 win.
Lake County jumped on top in the top of the second inning. Bobby Bradley started the inning by tripling off the top of the wall in leftfield. A wild pitch would then bring Bradley home for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning the Captains would get the eventual winning runs on the board. Francisco Mejia doubled to start the inning. Grant Fink followed and connected on a two run homerun to leftfield for a 3-0 Captains lead.
The Captains would tack on one more in the top of the fifth inning. Mejia would walk to start the inning. With two outs and Mejia at second, Yu-Cheng Chang hit a ground rule double to rightfield to score Mejia to push the lead to 4-0.
Wisconsin got their lone run in the bottom half of the fifth inning. With one out, Alan Sharkey doubled to right. Tucker Neuhaus followed with an RBI single to cut the Captains lead to 4-1. The Timber Rattlers would not threaten again the rest of the night.
Sheffield (5-1) got the win by going 6.0 innings, a season and career high. He allowed 1 run, earned, on 7 hits. Sheffield walked 1 and struck out 4. David Speer (H3) earned the hold with 2.0 innings of relief. He allowed 2 hits while striking out 1. Cameron Hill (3) earned the save with a perfect ninth inning. Hill struck out 2.
