Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
APPLETON, Wis. - Michael Blazek (8-4) took control for the River Bandits on Friday night to lead his team to their fifth straight win and a series sweep over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
The Bandit starter allowed only three hits while working a River Bandit season-high eight shutout innings. He walked only two and struck out five on his way to the win.
The bats supported his effort by scattering a couple of runs early before adding some cushion with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. The Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month Rainel Rosario continued his hot hitting with a two-hit game including a triple. Michael Swinson also had a pair of hits while going 2-for-4. He led the way with three RBI. Two of those came on a two-run home run in the ninth inning to provide some separation.
Jose Rada finished it off for Quad Cities by working a scoreless ninth. Damon Krestalude (2-10) was solid for the Timber Rattlers but he was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out seven over his six innings of work.
The River Bandits will return home on Saturday to Modern Woodmen Park to open their final three-game series of the regular season. It is Tony LaRussa bobblehead night with fireworks following the contest presented by Lujack's. Birdzerk will also be on hand to entertain fans all night long. The River Bandits will send right-hander Eric Fornataro to the mound against Peoria right-hander Ronny Morla. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
