\'Roeders' give Jack a final regular season home win, 6-5

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids ‘Roeders' gave Kernels GM Jack Roeder a win on his final regular season home game as the Kernels' GM as they defeated the Burlington Bees by the score of 6-5 on Friday night at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids on ‘Jack Roeder Appreciation Night'. Justin Bass tripled and scored the game-winning run on Terrell Alliman's single in the bottom of the 8th to seal the victory.

Kernels starter Stephen Locke cruised through the first three inning, but the Bees ambushed Locke for four runs and five hits in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Kernels battled back to take a 5-4 lead with two runs in the sixth, but the Bees tied the game in the seventh on a solo home run by Hilton Richardson.

Locke allowed five runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out four over seven innings in a no-decision effort. Reliever Bryant George (1-1) struck out one over an inning of relief for the win and Johnny Hellweg struck out two in the ninth for his 16th save. Burlington reliever Chas Byrne (0-1) took the loss for the Bees.

The Kernels had four triples in the game, as Justin Bass went 2-4 with two triples and two runs scored. Jean Segura was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI; Jeremy Cruz was 1-3 with a triple and run scored; and Carlos Ramirez was 1-3 with a triple and RBI. Dwanye Bailey went 1-3 with an RBI and Michael Wing was 1-3 with a stolen base. Ben Theriot was 3-4 with a double and Fernando Cruz was 2-4 with a double and RBI for Burlington.

The Kernels finish the 2010 home regular season with a 45-22 record at Perfect Game Field, and topped 2009's season record as they improve to 36-31 in the second half and 79-56 overall. They wrap up the 2010 MWL regular season with a three game set at Beloit and look to become only the eighth team in the history of Cedar Rapids Baseball to win 80 games. The last team to do so was the 2002 Kernels, under Todd Claus, that finished the regular season 81-58. Friday's crowd of 3,660 gave the Kernels a 2010 home attendance of 173,210 in 67 home games with three postponements.
