Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
APPLETON, Wis. - The Bandits scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to win their fourth straight and secure a series win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Quad Cities won 7-6 despite being out hit 12-6 on the night.
The River Bandits offense wasn't explosive, but they drew seven walks and capitalized on four Wisconsin errors. Only two of the River Bandits six hits went for extra bases. Edgar Lara had one of those with his solo home run in the eighth inning.
Shelby Miller got the start for the River Bandits and he allowed only one run on five hits over five innings. He didn't record a decision despite striking out eight batters while allowing just one walk.
After waiting out a 1:44 delay, Quad Cities got on the board early behind Miller early with three runs over the first two innings to take an early lead. Wisconsin came back and tied the game at four with two runs in the bottom of the eighth off LaCurtis Mayes. The River Bandits came through with a three-run 11th. The inning got started when Alan Ahmady reached on an error, but the big blow was the two-run single by Michael Swinson to put the game away.
Dan Calhoun (9-0) only allowed one hit over two shutout innings to finish off the game for Quad Cities and earn the win. Matt Costello (3-4) took the loss for the Timber Rattlers after getting charged with the deciding runs in the 11th inning. Costello worked 4.1 innings and only allowed one hit but was charged with two earned runs, three total.
The River Bandits will play their final regular season road game on Friday night against the Timber Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium. The River Bandits will send right-hander Michael Blazek to the mound against Rattlers righty Damon Krestalude. First pitch is set for 6:35.
