
Hawks Split DH in Home Finale

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks split a doubleheader in the home finale at Coveleski Stadium on Friday night, winning game one 2-1 before dropping the night cap 5-2 to the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The Silver Hawks closed out the home schedule with a 35-33 record at the Cove.
Game one saw Tyler Skaggs (WP, 9-5) pick up his first win in a Silver Hawks uniform. Acquired for Dan Haren in a trade with the Angels, Skaggs went 5.0 innings in his final start of the year, striking out seven and walking just one without giving up a run.
Derek Eitel (SV, 1) pitched the final two innings, allowing just one run to earn his first save with the Silver Hawks.
Keon Broxton homered in the top of the first and the Silver Hawks added an unearned run in the fifth to pin the loss on Fort Wayne starter Matt Lollis (LP, 5-2). Broxton's blast was his fourth of the season.
In game two, the TinCaps scored a run in the top of the first against Andrew Wolcott (ND), but he battled his way through 5.0 innings without allowing another run. However, Chris Odegaard (LP, 5-3) allowed a two-out, two-run homer to Jonathan Galvez in the sixth and two unearned runs in the seventh as the TinCaps rallied for the victory.
Bobby Borchering had a solo home run in the nightcap, and David Narodowski added the other RBI for the Silver Hawks.
Noah Mull (WP, 3-0) got the win in relief for Fort Wayne, with Miles Mikolas (SV, 13) recording the final four outs for the save.
Nate Freiman went 7-for-7 over the doubleheader with three doubles, three RBIs, and one run scored for the TinCaps.
The Silver Hawks head out on the road for the final three games in Dayton, Ohio against the Dragons (Cincinnati Reds). Game time on Saturday is 7:00 PM Eastern Time at Fifth Third Field with RHP Adam Worthington (5-6, 5.19 ERA) starting for South Bend against Dayton RHP Tim Crabbe (3-7, 4.34 ERA).
