Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels continue to enjoy playing at Perfect Game Field as they notched their league-high 44th home win in a 4-1 victory over the Burlington Bees on Thursday night. Jean Segura and Jose Jimenez both homered and Kernels starter Tyler Kerher (6-5) allowed an unearned run over seven strong innings.
Segura's hot bat continued throughout the game as he went 3-4 with a double, needing only a triple to hit for the cycle, and was the only Kernel with more than one hit in the game. Michael Wing was 1-3 with a triple and RBI and Matt Long was 1-4 with an RBI.
Kehrer allowed an unearned run in the fifth inning, giving up only three hits in the game with three walks and five strikeouts. Carson Andrew struck out one over an inning of relief and David Carpenter worked the ninth for his seventh save. Burlington starter Sugar Ray Marimon (2-6) allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out four over 5 IP in taking the loss. Whit Merrifield went 2-4 with an RBI for the Bees.
