Norfolk Admirals News Release
Matt Keith, Carl Corazzini and Jason Morgan scored in the second stanza and Adam Munro made 34 saves, as the Admirals were victorious 3-2 over Hartford.
The Admirals played shorthanded for more than seven minutes in the opening period. Hartford took an early lead off a Nigel Dawes man-advantage tally at 4:01. However, the Norfolk penalty kill was strong for the rest of the frame, killing four other penalties - including an extended five-on-three stretch. Adam Munro made 15 saves to keep the Admirals within one goal of the Wolf Pack after twenty minutes.
The Admirals cashed in on the momentum of their successful penalty kills early in the second stanza. Jason Morgan sent a pass from the face-off dot to Matt Keith at the opposite-side post. Keith re-directed the puck past Hartford netminder Robert Gherson at 1:48. Three minutes later, Carl Corazzini sent a wrist shot from the face-off dot to the right of Gherson that beat the goalie five-hole. The four-on-three power play marker at 4:10 gave Norfolk a 2-1 lead. The Wolf Pack drew even on a power play goal from Alexandre Giroux at 7:14. However, Norfolk regained their one-goal lead at 13:32 as Morgan netted a rebound off a Danny Richmond blue line blast. The Admirals took a 3-2 lead into the final frame.
Munro preserved Norfolk's one-goal lead by making several big saves in the third period. He stopped all nine shots to spearhead the Admirals to a 3-2 victory.
Adam Munro stopped 34 of 36 shots to earn the win. Robert Gherson made 31 saves on 34 Norfolk shots and picked up the loss.
Norfolk was 2-7 on the power play while Hartford was 2-8.
