Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - For a second consecutive game, the Binghamton Senators came back in the third period against one of the American Hockey League's top teams to prevail 3-2 in a shootout at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Wingers Danny Bois and Grant Potulny scored four minutes and 20 seconds apart in the third period to tie the game and give Binghamton a chance for the shootout win.
Binghamton's first goal, scored by Potulny, was set up when rookie forward Bobby Robins, playing in just his second professional game after finishing a four-year collegiate career at UMass-Lowell, put a hard shot on net that found Potulny behind Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi.
Bois then scored during a scramble in front of Cassivi to tie the game.
And just like Wednesday night, when the Senators beat Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3-2 in a shootout, Charlie Stephens and Jeff Heerema scored on Binghamton's first two shootout attempts for all of the scoring the Sens would need.
After more than 35 scoreless minutes, Hershey's Joey Tenute got the Bears on the board first with a power-play goal at 15:44 of the second period.
Forward Kris Beech, playing in his first game with the Bears, put his team ahead 2-0 at 6:27 of the final period with his 19th goal of the season.
Binghamton stepped up the pressure after the Beech goal and outshot the Bears 15 to six in the third period and 38 to 24 in the game.
The Bears scored twice on five power plays and Binghamton scored once in seven tries.
Kelly Guard stopped 22 of 24 Hershey shots while Frederic Cassivi, who leads the AHL in wins with 30, stopped 34 of 37 shots.
Binghamton returns to action on Saturday night as the Philadelphia Phantoms visit the Arena. The Senators will once again wear their special St. Patrick's Day alternate jerseys. Those jerseys are available for fans to purchase in an online auction that began during tonight's game and will conclude next Friday.
