B2 Networks AHL Game of the Week
March 17, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The B2 Networks AHL Game of the Week heads out west when the first place Houston Aeros invade the Bradley Center for a showdown with the second place Milwaukee Admirals . The two top teams in the West Division will face off on St. Patrick's Day, Friday March 17 at 7pm CST and will be broadcast exclusively on B2 Networks.
The Aeros have soared to the top of the West Division powered by a high octane offense. The top two scorers in the AHL call Texas home as Kirby Law (36-57-93) and Erik Westrum (31-60-91) continue their duel for the league scoring title. Considering the date of the game another player to watch is rookie Patrick O'Sullivan. A second round pick of the Minnesota Wild, O'Sullivan has scored more points (42-36-78) than any other AHL rookie this season . His 42 goals are the most of any AHL rookie since 1991-92 and the 23 goals he has scored in the last 24 outings has earned him the nickname "Hat trick" O'Sullivan. Despite numerous call ups to Nashville, Claude Noel's Admirals have made a strong second half run to move within six points of Houston in the race for first place in the West. Darren Haydar leads the offensive charge with 72 points (24-48-72). Rookie netminder Pekka Rinne has amassed an impressive 25 wins this season and will have to be solid in the pipes against the Aeros sharpshooters. Houston and Milwaukee both joined the AHL for the 2001-02 season and quickly made their mark as two of the last three AHL championships have been won by these two teams. The Aeros won their first Calder Cup in 2003, with Milwaukee capturing the top prize in 2004.
Fans wanting to watch either game will be able to access the broadcast through the individual team websites, or the league site www.theahl.com. The cost to watch each game is the usual price of $6 dollars. A high speed internet connection and a current version of Windows Media Player are required to view the events.
