Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI- Darren Haydar picked up his 100th career goal and Sheldon Brookbank broke a three all tie with less than five minutes to play in the game as the Milwaukee Admirals picked up a big 4-3 win over the first-place Houston Aeros on Friday night at the Bradley Center.

Haydar picked up his big goal on the power play at 4:34 of the second to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. After a Libor Pivko shot from the point, Haydar grabbed the rebound and beat Houston goalie Miroslav Kopriva to enter the history books.

The goal was Haydar's 25th of the season as he became the 15th Admiral to top the century mark in career goals. The 2003 AHL Rookie of the Year now has 256 career points which puts him tenth place all-time in franchise history. His 74 points this season are one shy of his career best of 75, set in his rookie campaign.

While Haydar's goal may have been the most memorable, it was Brookbank's tally that propelled the Ads to within four points of the Aeros in the West Division and also helped to give some confidence to the team after they suffered a tough 5-3 loss to Grand Rapids on Tuesday night.

After Houston forward Josh Olson took a hooking penalty to put the Admirals on the power play, Brookbank took a pass from Simon Gamache from behind the Aeros net and the Admirals' blueliner chipped the puck into the back of the cage.

The Admirals got the lone goal of the first period when Libor Pivko got a rebound goal at the 16:11 mark. With the Admirals on the power-play Greg Classen sent a pass out to Brookbank on the point who rifled a shot on Kopriva. Kopriva made the initial save, but gave up the rebound to Pivko who gathered the puck and lifted it into the net to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.

After Haydar scored to make it 2-0, the Aeros picked two straight tallies to tie the score at two heading into the final period. Rich Peverley made it 3-2 Admirals when he scored just 54 seconds into the third on assists from Haydar and Greg Zanon, but Houston's Peter Olvecky again knotted the game with a goal at 6:53, setting the stage for Brookbank's heroics.

Pivko paced the Admirals offence with a goal and two assists, while Haydar notched a goal and an assist. Pekka Rinne stopped 27 shots to earn his 26th win of the season.

The Admirals hit road for a game tomorrow night versus the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. Watch the game live on the B2 Networks at https://www.b2livetv.com.
