Three Goal Outburst Leads Thunder to 3-2 Win Over Rush

(Rapid City, SD) - With three goals in a ten minutes span, the Wichita Thunder earned a 3-2 win over the Rapid City Rush on Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Thunder all-star Matt Robinson netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner and goaltender Kevin Beech stopped 33 shots in the win. The Rush and Thunder square off again tomorrow at 7:05pm at the Civic Center. Tickets are still available.

Rapid City's leading goal-scorer, Ryan Menei, got the game started with an opening tally just 1:36 in. Scott Wray slid a pass to Menei in the slot who lifted a shot over the glove of goaltender Kevin Beech for the 1-0 lead.

The first half of the second period was all Wichita, charging back to earn a 3-1 lead. The Thunder cashed in on their first powerplay chance of the game, evening the score 2:48 into the period on a tally from Matt Robinson. Dustin Donaghy gave the Thunder the lead when he capitalized on a defensive zone turnover at 6:47. Robinson struck for his second of the evening near the midway point, accepting a pass from Andrew Martens before snapping a shot past Danny Battochio from the slot area. The Rush powerplay answered back with less than five minutes left in the second. Ryan Menei snapped a shot from the right faceoff dot that was deflected home by Derek LeBlanc for his 22nd of the season, bringing the game to its 3-2 final.
