MOLINE, Ill. - Steven Later, Shawn Fensel and Toby Lafrance provided a goal and an assist apiece and Rob Nolan made 35 saves as the Missouri Mavericks defeated the host Quad City Mallards 5-1 Saturday night.

The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead when Later drove a power play goal home from the left point at 10:46 of the first period.

The Missouri lead doubled when Todd Griffith finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 15:33 of the first.

At 4:12 of the second period, Quad City was on the power play when Joe Blaznek briefly sparked the Mallards by cutting the Maverick lead to 2-1 with a blast from the right point.

It would take the Mavericks just over two minutes to reestablish the two-goal lead while on a man advantage of their own. Shawn Fensel's wrist shot from the left wing circle stretched the gap to 3-1 and led to the replacement of Mallard starting goaltender Adam Russo by David Brown.

Brandon Coccimiglio's breakaway goal expanded the Missouri lead to 4-1 at 16:45 of the second. Lafrance capped off the evening for the Mavericks by burying Ryan Jardine's centering pass at 5:01 of the third period.
