
Bucks Lose Heartbreaker in Shootout

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Texas Brahmas 5-4 in a shootout Saturday night at NYTEX Sports Center. The Bucks picked up a point in the loss as they fall to 20-29-8 (48 points).
Texas' Chad Woollard tied the game with just five seconds left in regulation when he scored his second of the night with an extra attacker and Brian Ihnacak scored the game-winner in the shootout to help the Brahmas clinch a playoff spot.
Scott Reid stopped 20 of 21 shots he faced and set aside four of five Bucks shootout attempts as the Brahmas improve to 31-18-5 (67 points).
With the Bucks up 3-2 entering the third period the Brahmas tied the game at 3-3 just 1:45 into the final frame when Mick Lawrence tallied his second of the game on an odd-man rush.
Just 12 seconds later Brian Matte put the Bucks up 4-3 when he knocked in his second of the night right off the face-off.
Then Woollard picked up his CHL-leading 39th of the season when he scored on a rebound in front to send the game to overtime.
The Brahmas jumped out ahead of the Bucks at the 5:15 mark of the first when Woollard scored on a two-on-one break.
The Bucks would then score three unanswered goals, including two in just 57 seconds, to take a 3-1 lead after one.
Laredo tied the game at 1-1 at the 8:31 mark of the first when Jeff Hazelwood stole a pass in the Brahmas end and found a wide open Brian Matte who scored on a backhander right in front of the net. The goal was Matte's 10th of the season, and his fifth in the Bucks last four games.
The Bucks would take a 2-1 lead at the 8:31 mark of the period when Neil Trimm picked off a Brahmas pass in the slot and scored his 21st of the season.
57 seconds later the Bucks would go up 3-1 when B.J Crum scored his first goal of the season after taking a feed from Keegan Dansereau.
The Bucks outshot the Brahmas 14-8 in the first period.
The Brahmas pulled goaltender Wayne Savage for the second period after he gave up three goals on 14 shots in the first 20 minutes.
Texas cut the Bucks lead to 3-2 with less than one second to go in the period when Mick Lawrence re-directed Jason Deitsch's pass in from right in front of the net to score his 15th of the season.
Laredo outshot Texas 13-10 in the second period.
The Bucks were outshot 12-7 in the third period but outshot Texas for the game 35-30.
Pier Pelletier stopped 26 of 30 shots to suffer the hard luck loss in net.
Three of the five games between the Bucks and Brahmas have gone past regulation with Laredo posting a 1-0-2 mark in those contests.
The Bucks start a three-game home stand Tuesday (March 8th) when they host Arizona.
