Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs fell behind 2-0 in the first period Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center and never could dig out of the hole in a 4-2 loss to the Allen Americans. The loss drops Bossier-Shreveport to 29-24-3 this year heading into tomorrow afternoon's tilt against the rival Texas Brahmas.

David Rutherford and Shawn Limpright scored goals as the ‘Bugs outshot the Americans 25-18 in the last two periods, but never could recover from a rough first period. Allen added two powerplay goals later in the game to finish off the win and complete the season series with their eighth win over the Mudbugs in ten games.

The Mudbugs were outshot 12-6 in the first period and fell behind when a pass from the corner in their own zone deflected into the net off the skates of Liam Huculak and Ryan Munce at 3:49. Allen took a 2-0 lead late in the period as David Nimmo's shot from the slot was stopped but slid right to the goal mouth, allowing Colton Yellow Horn to tap it in for a two-goal Americans lead after one.

Judd Blackwater gave Allen a 3-0 edge with a powerplay goal in the second, sending a perfect shot into the top corner of the net at 9:44. The Mudbugs gained momentum as the period went along however, outshooting the Amerks 17-10 and then getting on the scoreboard with just over four minutes left in the middle frame. Andy Contois fed a pass toward the net and Shane Hart gave it to David Rutherford, who pumped home his 33rd tally of the season to make it a 3-1 game heading into the third.

The Americans went up 4-1 with a powerplay goal from Nino Musitelli midway through the final period. Shawn Limpright answered less than a minute later however, beating Chris Whitley with a wrister off a Travis Clayton pass to get the ‘Bugs back within a pair at 4-2. Allen held off the Mudbugs over the last nine minutes though to finish off the victory.

Ryan Munce (1-2-1) stopped 26 shots in the defeat as the Mudbugs ended with a 31-30 shot advantage. Chris Whitley (19-7-1) made 28 saves in the win after relieving starter Scott Campbell, who left the game with an apparent injury less than four minutes in. Bossier-Shreveport went scoreless on three powerplays, while Allen scored on 2 of 4.

The Mudbugs will now complete a three-in-three weekend with another home game tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 as they face the rival Texas Brahmas for the ninth time this season.
