Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
LOVELAND, Colo.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (23-28-6) defeated the Colorado Eagles (34-19-4) on Saturday night by a 2-0 score behind 45 saves from Juliano Pagliero who earned his third shutout of the season. Aaron Lee and Aaron Lewicki each scored power-play strikes for the Bees as the Bees power-play went 2-4 and the penalty-kill held Colorado to 0-8.
The shutout for Pagliero marks the first time in eight seasons of play the Colorado Eagles have been shutout at home. The victory also marked the first-ever for the Bees at the Budweiser Events Center.
The firs t period took a noticeably different tone for the night before as there was only one goal scored as compared to six the previous night. The lone goal was scored by the Lone Star State squad as Aaron Lee netted a power-play strike, his 18th goal of the season.
The Bees were granted a 5-on-3 advantage with Daymen Rycroft and Jason Beatty both in the box. While up by two men Darcy Campbell worked the puck in front from the goal line while Lee came across the crease. The puck arrived at the perfect time as Lee was able to tap it past Andrew Penner for the goal.
Colorado would throw 14 shots in on Juliano Pagliero during the second period but the Bees netminder would turn away each of the chances as at the end of two periods the Bees retained the 1-0 lead.
Aaron Lewicki helped to give the Bees a little breathing room with a power-play strike at 1:11 of the third period. The goal came just 19 seconds into the Bees advantage. Darcy Campbell registered his second assist of the game feeding the puck to Lewicki who was alone in the slot and beat Penner with the deflection.
Juliano Pagliero continued his heroics in the third period making an incredible 18 saves as the Colorado Eagles sent all varieties of rubber towards the net. The Eagles would play most of the final two and a half minutes with the extra attacker on but Pagliero continued to stand tall as the Killer Bees defense allowed clean looks and cleared away the rebounds.
The Killer Bees will play a special Kids Only game this Wednesday against the Arizona Sundogs set to get underway at 10:30 a.m. The game can be heard on Real Country 102.1-FM KBUC and watching online on CHL-TV.
