Peoria Chiefs News Release
Davenport, IAâ All-Stars Ryan Harvey and Eric Patterson provided the offense and Chris Shaver shut down the Swing over seven innings as the Peoria Chiefs defeated Quad Cities 6-1 Tuesday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. With the win the Chiefs are back over .500 at 33-32 on the season with five games left in the half.
The Chiefs jumped all over Swing starter Donnie Smith in the third inning. San Fuld drew a one out walk and advanced to second on a single to center by Eric Patterson. Aaron Sisk gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with a double just inside the third base line as Fuld scored from second and Patterson stopped at third. After fouling off four consecutive two-strike pitches, Ryan Harvey slammed a three-run homer to left-center for a 4-0 Chiefs lead. The homer, Harvey's ninth of the season traveled well over 420 feet and went down a concourse sidewalk toward the Mississippi River.
Two innings later, Patterson drove a solo leadoff homer into the batters eye in straight away center to extend Peoria's lead to 5-0. The homer was the second baseman's fifth of the season and the Chiefs' eighth in their last five games.
With the score still 5-0 Peoria, Chris Shaver cruised through the Swing lineup until the 6th. With two outs in the 6th, Rick Ankiel, a former Chiefs pitcher, crushed a solo homer down the right-field line to get the Swing on the board. The blast was the outfielders 5th of the season in 17 games.
The Chiefs added the game's final run in the 9th against former Chiefs and 2005 All-Star Jaymie Torres. Fuld led off with a double and scored ahead of the cut off throw after Patterson doubled off the wall in center.
Shaver (3-5) responded by retiring the next four batters he faced in his outing. He finished with his second seven inning outing of the season and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out one.
