Beloit, WI â The Kane County Cougars scored in the top of the first inning Tuesday night in Beloit but managed only one more tally the rest of way in an 11-2 loss to the Snappers at Pohlman Field. Kevin Melillo, Javier Herrera, Raul Padron and Tommy Everidge each had two hits in a 10-hit offensive attack that got just one run out of three different bases-loaded opportunities.
Javier Herrera and Raul Padron had two-out singles in the first against Snappers starter Kyle Waldrop, and Myron Leslie followed with a run-scoring hit for a 1-0 game. The Snappers scored seven runs in the first three frames against Cougars starter Jared Trout. Kane County added one in the fifth when Jose Pineda grounded out with the bases loaded to cut it to 7-2. Beloit benefited from an unearned run against Trout in the bottom half, scored on a homer in the seventh against reliever Joe Scott and got two bases-loaded walks from Marcus McBeth in the eighth to produce the 11-2 final.
Trout (2-2) got the loss after five innings of duty. He gave up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits, walked his first man in five starts and struck out four. Waldrop (3-5) got the win for the Snappers. The finale of the three-game set is Wednesday at 7 CDT. Ryan Webb (3-6, 4.50) toes the rubber for the Cougars (27-37) against Jay Rainville (5-2, 3.88) for Beloit (31-34).
