June 14, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN â The South Bend Silver Hawks, who have a record number 11 players making the trip to the Midwest League All-Star Game in Peoria on June 21, will have two players participating in one of the pre-game festivities. Agustin Murillo and Allen Mottram have been added to the home run hitting contest presented by Mountain Dew.
Agustin Murillo has been hot from the beginning of the season, leading the Midwest League for a large portion of the season, before recently cooling off. Murillo continues to lead the Silver Hawks in batting average at .342 and is tied atop the league RBI list with teammate and All-Star companion Carlos Gonzalez with 44.
Murillo has also enjoyed a pair of extended hitting streaks on the year. In April, he mustered a 10 game hitting streak and opened the month of May with an 11 game hit streak and magnified those streaks by hitting safely in 42-of the team's first-52 games. Murillo goes into play tonight with 10 home runs and 44 RBI.
Allen Mottram has surpassed the numbers he had in 2004 with the Hawks when he finished the year with a .272 mark, while clouting 7 homers and driving in 36 runs in 53 games.
Mottram has answered the bell this season after an early season head injury to help the Silver Hawks become the highest scoring team in the Midwest League (374). Mottram compiled a 10 game hit streak in the opening month of the campaign and has shown his worth away from Coveleski Stadium, by hitting 9-of his-10 big fly's in visiting ballparks. His only home run at the Cove came Monday night in the eighth inning of the Silver Hawks 11-10 win over the Dayton Dragons.
Mottram is hitting .319, with 10 homer runs and 30 RBI.
The Silver Hawks and Dragons continue their three game set tonight at the Cove with Ross Ohlendorf (4-4) throwing for the South Bend and Homer Bailey (1-3) getting the call for Dayton. Game time is scheduled for 7 PM, with the gates opening at 6 PM.
