Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
CLINTON, IA -- The Clinton LumberKings scored five times in the first inning and never looked back in their 11-5 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Alliant Energy Field. Billy Susdorf doubled home a pair of runs in the first inning and Brandon Boggs hit a three run homer to pace the Clinton offense. The win by the LumberKings tied them with the Rattlers at the top of the Midwest League's Western Division. Both teams have identical 36-29 records and each team has five games left in the first half.
Clinton jumped on the Rattlers right away. They loaded the bases with one out against Wisconsin starter Casey Abrams. Ian Gac drew a walk to force in the first run of the inning. Abrams got Ben Harrison to send a grounder to second, but the ball went under Oswaldo Navarro's glove for an error and two more runs scored. Abrams walked the next batter to load the bases. Susdorf followed with a two-run double and the LumberKings had a 5-0 lead.
The LumberKings scored two unearned runs on Rattler reliver Eric O'Flaherty in the second inning to go up 7-0. A passed ball allowed one Clinton run to score in the bottom of the third and it was 8-0.
Then, in the fourth O'Flaherty gave up a double and a walk before giving way to Kendall Bergdall. Boggs launched Bergdall's third pitch over the left field wall for a three run homer and an 11-0 lead. After the home run by Boggs, the game was delayed by rain for sixty-one minutes.
Clinton starting pitcher Kyle Rogers did not return after the rain delay and Wisconsin got on the board against reliever Matt Farnum. Josh Womack extended his hitting streak to six games with an RBI triple. Sebastien Boucher moved his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI single and the Rattlers trailed 11-2.
The Rattlers added two more runs in the seventh on an error and an RBI grounder by Yung Chi Chen. Navarro, who had three hits on the night, hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring.
The final game of the three game series is Wednesday night. Randy Frye (1-0, 0.00ERA) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Rattlers. John Bannister (4-5, 3.88ERA) is slated to start for the LumberKings. Game time is 7:00pm.
