Thrashers recall MacKenzie, Santala; Wolves recall Doell

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled centers Derek MacKenzie and Tommi Santala from the Chicago Wolves. In addition, the Wolves have recalled Kevin Doell from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

MacKenzie and Santala join six other former Wolves currently on Atlanta¹s active roster.

MacKenzie leads the Wolves and is tied for fourth in the American Hockey League with two short-handed goals, while sharing second on the team with 11 goals and third on the club with 21 points.

The Sudbury, Ontario, native, who did not appear in a game after being recalled by the Thrashers earlier this season, recorded two penalty minutes in his only National Hockey League game on April 12, 2002, against the Columbus Blue Jackets in his NHL debut with Atlanta.

Santala began the season with the Thrashers, tallying one goal, one assist and 18 penalty minutes in 24 games with Atlanta. The 24-year-old rookie notched his first professional NHL point with an assist against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 18.

The Helsinki, Finland, native has registered five goals and eight points in 15 games with Chicago after being assigned to the Wolves on Dec. 3.

Doell leads the Gladiators with 35 points and four game-winning goals in 34 games this season. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native shares first with 13 goals and four power-play goals.

Last year, Doell tallied a career-high 25 goals; 26 assists; 51 points; and 34 penalty minutes in 41 games with the University of Denver. Overall, Doell notched 62 goals; 74 assists; 136 points; and 106 penalty minutes in 158 games with the University of Denver (1999-2003).
