Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves, in conjunction with Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy dealers, will collect new or used youth hockey equipment at three home games in January for donation to Gunzo¹s Urban Hockey Initiative, which teaches inner-city kids to play hockey.

Fans who bring new or used equipment to the Chevy display in the Southeast or North Lobby of the Allstate Arena on Wed., Jan. 7; Fri, Jan. 10; or Sat., Jan. 11 will receive a free ticket to a future Wolves game.

Several Wolves players will also attend a practice at Riis Park, 6100 W. Fullerton Ave., in Chicago on Thu., Jan. 8, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. to help instruct the kids.

"Some kids have a dream, and this program can help keep that dream alive," said Perry Starks, president of the hockey initiative. "We can show inner-city kids that if they want to try, they may have the talent and the dream may become a reality. By watching the Wolves on TV, we can instruct them on the game and show them how players come up through the system. It rubs off on the kids, because they like to imitate famous players."

The program, which began in 2001, provides equipment, coaches, ice time and organized play in the form of practices and games, and serves as a launching pad for city kids to learn the sport's basic skills that will help them be competitive at higher levels in the future. There are currently about 50 kids involved in the program.
