Portland Thorns FC News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC have acquired $100,000 in Allocation Money, a 2022 NWSL Draft natural second round pick and roster immunity in the 2022 NWSL expansion draft from Angel City FC in exchange for forwards Simone Charley and Tyler Lussi, it was announced today.
"I've been a player who has been traded, so the most important part of this process was meeting with Simone and Tyler to ensure they were supported in this move," said Thorns FC general manager Karina LeBlanc. "Both players expressed their love for the Thorns and the impact their time here has had on them as people and players, yet when this opportunity came about they conveyed their desire for a new challenge and opportunity.
"With expansion, we knew we were going to lose some players, and after speaking with them we came to a mutual understanding. They are both great people that have shown a commitment to helping this club become a success on the field, in the locker room and within the Portland community. We appreciate all their contributions and wish them all the best in Los Angeles."
Charley, 26, signed with Thorns FC on May 8, 2019. During her time in Portland, Charley logged 46 matches played (28 starts), recording eight goals and two assists across all NWSL competitions. In 2021, Charley recorded a career-best five goals, appearing in 19 matches (11 starts).
