December 8, 2021 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, WA - OL Reign today announced a series of roster moves following the conclusion of its 2021 NWSL season.
The club has extended contract offers for the 2022 season to defender Lauren Barnes, forward Tziarra King, goalkeeper Ella Dederick, and NWSL MVP Jess Fishlock.
The team also exercised its options for the 2022 season for defender Madison Hammond and midfielder Nikki Stanton. Stanton was acquired earlier this month in a trade with the Chicago Red Stars. Earlier this year the club exercised its option for goalkeeper Cosette Morché, who remains on loan through June 2022 with GPSO 92 Issy in France.
Seven players will not return to OL Reign for its upcoming 2022 NWSL season.
The Reign declined to exercise its option for forward Miranda Nild, who spent the 2021 season on loan with Swedish side Kristianstads DFF.
Forward Eugénie Le Sommer, midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsán, and goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi have all returned to Olympique Lyonnais after the completion of their loans with OL Reign.
OL Reign has elected to waive the rights of Costa Rican international midfielder Shirley Cruz and New Zealand international midfielder Rosie White, while OL Reign defender Steph Cox has announced her decision to retire from professional soccer.
"Rosie and Shirley made important contributions to our club over the last two seasons. We appreciate all they gave to the club and wish them the best," said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore. "I think all would agree that Steph will be remembered and celebrated as a legend at our club. As a Reign original she played a massive role in shaping the enduring culture and values of our organization."
