Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Current announced today that defender Hailie Mace has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2024 season. The move is the latest in a series of announcements made by the team, following the trade for midfielder Sam Mewis and the extension of defender Elizabeth Ball's contract earlier this week.
"I am so excited to be staying in Kansas City for three more years," said Mace. "This club is going to be something very special, and I cannot wait to be a continual part of it. I want to thank the club for this opportunity and am looking forward to representing this city!"
Mace came to Kansas City in a blockbuster midseason trade with the North Carolina Courage. Along with forward Kristen Hamilton and goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland, she was one of three players brought to the team in exchange for forward Amy Rodriguez.
Originally drafted by Sky Blue FC (now Gotham FC) in 2019, Mace elected to play in Australia and Sweden in her first season. She returned to the NWSL prior to the 2020 Challenge Cup when her rights were traded from Sky Blue to North Carolina. She played in every game for North Carolina in both the 2020 and 2021 Challenge Cups.
Mace played 10 games for the Courage before the trade and an additional 13 for Kansas City. She had three goals and an assist on the year. Mace primarily lined up in the midfield for the Courage but proved her versatility in Kansas City as she saw time at forward, midfield and defense.
Building on an exciting Inaugural Season, which included the announcement of a new $15 million training facility (opening in 2022) and $70 million stadium (opening 2024), the Kansas City Current are actively preparing for the 2022 NWSL season. Next up is the NWSL Draft on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. CT.
