Angel City FC News Release
LOS ANGELES - Angel City Football Club (ACFC) today announced Daniel Ball as the club's inaugural goalkeeper coach. Ball coached the NJ/NY Gotham FC goalkeepers during the 2021 season, notching the club's record for the lowest goals conceded (21) and helping lead the team to a Challenge Cup appearance.
"We are pleased to welcome Dan Ball as our Head of Goalkeeping. Dan is an intelligent, forward-thinking, and creative goalkeeper coach who has developed both college and leading goalkeepers in the NWSL. His work produces notable excellence in goalkeepers and we look forward to Dan leading our goalkeeping department," said Eni Aluko, ACFC Sporting Director.
Before Ball's time in the NWSL, the 29-year-old coached NCAA women's soccer at Iowa State, Bowling Green, Concordia Nebraska, and Milligan College. At Bowling Green, he led the team to back-to-back- Mid-American Conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances.
"I am delighted to be working with Dan for another season. Dan brings fresh ideas and fantastic energy to training sessions, while working tirelessly to improve all of the team's goalkeepers. He maximizes goalkeeper utilization both in and out of possession to enhance overall successful team performance. Welcome to LA, Dan," said Freya Coombe, ACFC Head Coach.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Ball, a Chatham, England native, coached current San Diego Wave FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. Sheridan won an Olympic Gold Medal for Team Canada in the 2020 Olympic Games and was named to the NWSL First XI for Gotham FC in 2021.
"I am incredibly grateful to Julie, Eni and Freya for bringing me to Angel City. There are very few clubs in the world with the vision, personnel and support that ACFC has, and it is a privilege to be a part of the clubs on-field journey from the very beginning. Los Angeles and Banc of California stadium will be an incredible place for our women to compete, and it is an honor to lead our group of goalkeepers in our inaugural season," said Ball.
Notably, Ball coached current San Diego Wave FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan who won an Olympic Gold Medal for Team Canada in the 2020 Olympic Games and was named to the NWSL First XI for Gotham FC in 2021. Ball will work with the forthcoming Angel City goalkeepers who take the pitch in Spring 2022 at The Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
