Thompson Shines in Senators Win

April 19, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators got a great pitching performance from Aaron Thompson, and edged the visiting Reading Phillies on Monday night at Metro Bank Park, by a final score of 2-1.

Thompson (1-1) threw seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk, on his way to his first win of the season. Drew Storen worked the final two innings, allowing a single run on a Tyson Gillies solo home run, and picked up his second save. Phillippe Aumont (0-1) took the loss for Reading, despite allowing just one run in five innings.

It was another light night offensively for the Senators (3-9), but the bats did just enough to earn a win. The Sens struck first in the fourth inning, which began with a leadoff double off the bat of Danny Espinosa. Espinosa would later come around to score, after having moved to third on a Jesus Valdez single, when Bill Rhinehart grounded into a double play. That put the Senators in front 1-0 through four.

The Sens added to their lead in the seventh inning, as Bill Rhinehart scored on an Adam Fox sacrifice fly. Rhinehart and Chris Marrero had each singled to lead off the inning.

Valdez recorded two hits for the Senators, with Espinosa, Rhinehart, Marrero, and Michael Martinez contributing the other four. Gillies had three hits for the Phillies (6-6).

Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 PM, with Tom Milone (0-0) of the Senators opposing Michael Cisco (1-1) for Reading. The game broadcast can be heard on 1460AM The Ticket, and on the internet through www.senatorsbaseball.com beginning at 6:45 PM.
