Curve Walk Their Way to 10-3 Win at Akron

AKRON, OH - The Altoona Curve used 10 walks and three errors by the homestanding Aeros to snap a modest two-game losing streak and secure a 10-3 victory at Akron on Monday night at Canal Park.

Offensively, the Curve were paced by Alex Presley who enjoyed a two-hit night as he drove in a career-high five runs en route to going 2-for-5. Presley smashed an RBI triple in the third inning and then belted a three-run homer in the fourth. He would drive in his final run of the contest after reaching on a fielder's choice in the fifth.

Two Curve players extended their hitting streaks as Josh Harrison (six games) and Matt Hague (seven games) each contributed offensively. Harrison was 1-for-2 with a double while drawing three walks while Hague walked twice with the bases loaded while enjoying a 1-for-3 night.

Gorkys Hernandez (2-for-6), Miles Durham (1-for-6) and Jordy Mercer (1-for-4 with two runs scored) also enjoyed productive nights for the Curve (8-3).

Starter Mike Crotta (2-0) scattered three runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings of work to earn his second victory of the season. Ronald Uviedo enjoyed 1.2 innings of perfect relief while Jeff Sues tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Altoona will send righty Jared Hughes (2-0, 2.53) to the mound in the second game of the series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Akron (6-6) will counter with RHP Connor Graham (0-1, 10.61). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430-WVAM and on Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates.

NOTES - Six of Altoona's 10 runs scored after runners reached on either a walk or an error - Presley's five RBIs are the first since Shelby Ford drove in five runs on August 8, 2009 at New Hampshire.
