KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 27, 2015)- Delmarva third baseman Jomar Reyes plated his second run of the game in the top of the 10th with a double and the Shorebirds held on to beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 2-1, Thursday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. After the two teams combined for 19 runs on Wednesday, the offense was much harder find in game three Thursday.
Zach Thompson worked around a first-inning run to turn in the longest outing of his career, spinning 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking three and striking out five in a no decision.
Devin Davis was charged with the loss (2-3) matching a career-high 3 and 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits while walking two and striking out a career-tying five.
In the first, Delmarva took a 1-0 lead when Steve Wilkerson doubled and scored the next at-bat on a Reyes double.
Kannapolis tied the game 1-1 in the first after Toby Thomas reached on a bunt single, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by 'Birds catcher Yermin Rodriguez. Thomas then scored on a Mason Robbins ground out.
In the tenth, Rayes lined a doubled into the right-center field gap scoring Ademar Rifaela to give Delmarva a 2-1 lead.
Dennis Torres worked 4.0 innings in his second start of the year, allowing one run on one hit while walking one and striking out one, in a no-decision.
Tanner Chleborad earned the win (1-2) working 3.0 innings, allowing no runs, one hit while walking one and striking out three
