Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC - Former Hickory Crawdads All-Star Jurickson Profar has returned to Hickory, with the 2011 South Atlantic League MVP rejoining the 'Dads on a rehab assignment from the Texas Rangers.

Profar, 22, starred for the 2011 Crawdads, helping to lead the team to the 1st half Northern Division title by batting .286/.390/.493 with 12 home runs, 37 doubles, 8 triples, 65 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. The Curacao native was named the MiLB.com Class-A Hitter of the Year as well as an Organization All-Star. Profar went on to be an All-Star at Double-A Frisco in 2012 before becoming the youngest ever position player to make his major league debut with the Rangers (19 years, 195 days old), when he also homered in his first big league at-bat.

The number one prospect in Minor League Baseball heading into 2013 according to Baseball America, Profar began the 2013 campaign in Triple-A Round Rock before being recalled to Texas in May. The switch hitting infielder hit .234 with 6 HR, 11 2B, 26 RBI, and 2 SB over 85 games in the majors that year. He has not appeared in a big league game since with injuries to his right shoulder costing him the entire 2014 campaign as well as the majority of 2015.

Profar joins his younger brother Juremi on the Crawdads, joining a team that has won an SAL Northern Division title for the first time since 2011. Profar's rehab assignment to Hickory marks the first time a major leaguer has rehabbed with the 'Dads since Adam LaRoche in 2008, when the first baseman went 6-10 with one home run and 4 RBI over 3 games with the then Pirate's affiliate.
