Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs have announced that the final Sunday of the season, August 30, will be a special Faith and Family Night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
As part of the festivities, the RiverDogs will hold a special service prior to Sunday's game against the Asheville Tourists. Charleston Southern University baseball player Chris Singleton, the university's campus pastor Jon Davis, and Seacoast Church's founding pastor Greg Surratt will be present to speak at the unique Faith Night service.
"We're excited to have Chris, Jon, and Greg come out to The Joe and speak at this pregame service," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "The RiverDogs welcome fans of all faiths into the ballpark to enjoy what the men from Charleston Southern and Lead Pastor at Seacoast Church present."
Singleton, a sophomore at Charleston Southern University, lost his mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, in the tragic events at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Downtown Charleston on June 17.
Davis has served as CSU's campus pastor since 2011. He has a long affiliation with CSU, as he was an assistant football coach from 1991-1999 and the university's Fellowship of Christian Athletes director since 2003. Davis assists Summit Church as a teaching pastor, providing pulpit ministry each Sunday.
Surratt is the founding pastor of Seacoast Church, one of the first churches to pioneer the multi-site approach to the weekend experience. He is the president and co-founder of the Association of Related Churches (ARC), which is a global church-planting initiative that has established more than 400 churches worldwide over the last 12 years.
The RiverDogs will auction off their "Seersucker Sunday" Jersey tops with all of the proceeds going to the Chris Singleton Fund. In addition to the money raised from the jerseys, the RiverDogs will also donate the money raised from their hat swap with the Chattanooga Lookouts to the Chris Singleton Fund.
Gates on Sunday will open at 3:30 p.m. for those interested in hearing Singleton, Davis, and Surratt speak beginning at 3:45 p.m.
