Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: The GreenJackets entered Thursday night's game against the West Virginia Power on an eight game losing streak. A streak that included two series sweeps from the Savannah Sand Gnats and Charleston RiverDogs. After dropping the first two games of this series with the Power, the GreenJackets send out arguably their top pitcher Mark Reyes. Reyes was 7-6 on the year with an ERA of 2.27 upon entering the game. Reyes outlasted the Power's starting pitcher Yeudy Garcia by almost two full innings and received the win for his efforts. The GreenJackets squeezed out a tight victory with a score of two to one.

The first hit of the game did not come until the bottom of the fourth inning off the bat of designed hitter Matt Pare (Pare 2-3 tonight). Andrew Cain followed with a second hit and moved Pare into scoring position but Chase Compton grounded out in a 6-4 putout to end the inning.

Reyes was able to keep the Power hitless until the sixth inning, when Taylor Gushue doubled to lead off the inning. Tito Polo put a bunt down the third base side that sent third baseman Jonah Arenado charging to field the ball. An off balance throw to first wound up landing by the fence down the first base line, Gushue raced around third to home for the first run of the game. With no outs and a runner on second, Mark Reyes was able to get out of the jam in the sixth inning to hold the Power to just a one run lead.

The GreenJackets came roaring back in the bottom half of the sixth with Dylan Davis doubling to lead off the inning. Jonah Arenado made up for his fielding error by hitting an RBI single to tie the game at one. The RBI put Arenado at the sixty-one mark for the year (which leads all current GreenJackets). The GreenJackets managed to get Andrew Cain and Jared Deacon into scoring position with no outs, but failed to come through for extra runs in the inning.

Yet again in the seventh inning, Mark Reyes was able to work his magic on the mound to escape another Power scoring attempt. After putting two men on base with one out, Reyes struck out Taylor Gushue and forced Tito Polo to fly out to center field. Reyes handed the ball over to the GreenJackets bullpen after the seventh inning. The final stat line for Reyes read seven innings, two hits, zero earned runs, and struck out three.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Dylan Davis was able to once again spark the GreenJackets offense. This time with two outs he drew a walk. Arendo also walked to move Davis to second base. A called balk by base umpire Ryan Powers on Jake Burnette moved Davis 90 feet from home plate. Burnette then went on to walk Pare to load the bases. Power's manager Brian Esposito made a move to his bullpen for Edgar Santana. Sanatan threw a wild pitch to Andrew Cain that let Davis score from third to give the GreenJackets a two to one lead.

Eury Sanchez pitched a scoreless and hitless eighth inning to set up Reyes Moronta for his tenth save of the season. Moronta retired the side in the ninth and the GreenJackets put up their first win in eleven days. The final scoreboard line read two runs, six hits, and one error for the GreenJackets and one run, two hits, and one error for the West Virginia Power. Mark Reyes improves to 8-6 with an ERA of 2.15, reliever Jake Burnette takes the loss and is now 4-4 with an ERA of 2.11.

The fourth and final game of the series between the GreenJackets and Power feature a pitching match up of Michael Santos and Alex McRae. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
