(Charlotte, NC) - Trayce Thompson's second home run of the night keyed the Charlotte Knights' 7-5 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark. The PawSox hit two game-tying homers of their own, but Thompson's five RBIs were the difference in the game.

Luke Montz and Allen Craig had tied the game in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Sox went ahead 5-4 in the seventh on a Bryce Brentz single.

Zeke Spruill, who came on in relief of starter Jess Todd, was lifted with two on and one out in the eighth for Noe Ramirez. Thompson hit Ramirez's second pitch out of the ballpark for a three-run blast. It was Thompson's ninth home run, four of which have come in five games against the PawSox.

Todd retired the first seven hitters he faced and faced just one more than the minimum in the first three innings. The Knights broke through in the fourth. Tyler Saladino was walked to lead off the inning; with two outs, Thompson rocketed his first homer to left and made it 2-0 Charlotte.

Pawtucket pulled ahead in the top of the fifth. Deven Marrero ripped a leadoff single against Knights' reliever Jarrett Casey, who came on in relief of spot starter Miguel Chalas. Chalas allowed only one hit over four outstanding innings. With Marrero at second after a wild pitch, Montz crushed his fifth home run to deep left and the game was tied, 2-2.

With still nobody out, the PawSox continued to pour it on. Humberto Quintero and Mike Miller singled before Jackie Bradley, Jr. struck out. Quintin Berry then walked to load the bases, and Bryce Brentz put Pawtucket ahead, 3-2 with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Knights seized the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Spruill came on and surrendered a single to Kevan Smith and walked Tyler Colvin. Leury Garcia moved them both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Micah Johnson tied the game with a single and Saladino put the Knights ahead, 4-3 with a base-hit to left.

Craig hit the first pitch of the top of the sixth over the right-field wall to tie the game, 4-4. Spruill settled into the game and retired eight of the next nine Knights. As he did so, the PawSox pulled ahead.

Bradley, Jr. blooped a double down the left-field line and scored on Brentz's one-out single. Brentz tried to advance to second on the throw home, was thrown out at second and left the game after an apparent injury.

In the bottom of the eighth, Spruill retired Colvin before walking Matt Tuiasosopo. Matt Davidson then hit a comebacker; Spruill looked to throw the second but had to hesitate with no one at the bag. His throw then caromed off of Tuiasosopo. Ramirez then came out of the pen and Thompson had the biggest swing of the game.

The PawSox will begin close the series in Charlotte on Thursday night at 7:05 P.M. The righthander Keith Couch (3-6, 4.58) will be opposed by righty Shawn Haviland (2-4, 5.11). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.

Pawtucket returns home Monday, July 22nd for a seven-game homestand. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
