Tyler Duffey struck out nine, James Beresford had three hits, and the Rochester Red Wings used a six-run fourth inning to beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7-1 Wednesday at Frontier Field.

The RailRiders had beaten the Red Wings in four of the last five games, including a 6-4 victory here Tuesday. Scranton got off to a fast start against Rochester starter Tyler Duffey Wednesday, picking up a pair of singles to put runners at first and second with one out. Duffey fanned clean-up hitter Kyle Roller, and a ground ball out ended the threat.

Duffey and RailRiders starter Kyle Davies opposed each other for the third straight start, with the teams having played each other in nine of the past 12 days.

In the bottom of the forth inning, Danny Ortiz led off with a base hit. Oswaldo Arcia followed with a double that drove in Ortiz, giving the Wings a 1-0 lead. Davies set down the next two batters, then Argenis Diaz joined in on the offense with an RBI base hit, increasing the Wings lead to 2-0. Diaz swiped second base, and later scored on a single by Jose Martinez.

Danny Santana kept the offense going with a single that moved Martinez to second. James Beresford drove in his 19th run of the season with a single that pushed Martinez across to score, moved Santana to third and gave the Wings a 4-0 lead. Eric Fryer reached first on a throwing error by Gregorio Petit which allowed Santana and Beresford to cross the plate and push the Wings' lead to 6-0. The Wings' offensive outburst tied their in-season record for most hits in a single inning with seven (first inning, May 5 in Indianapolis).

Davies (5-4) was done after four, having given up eight hits and six runs (five earned). Davies walked two and struck out two, throwing 99 pitches - 58 for strikes.

The offense continued in the bottom of the sixth. Santana drilled his second hit of the game, and Beresford continued his hot hitting with his first triple of the season and his sixth hit in his last 15 at bats. The triple brought in Santana and made the score 7-0.

Duffey (1-4) worked eight innings, his longest outing of the season including eight starts at Double-A before joining the Wings. He scattered six hits and walked one, to go with nine strikeouts. Duffey threw 106 pitches, 71 for strikes.

Caleb Thielbar worked the ninth inning for the Red Wings. The RailRiders had not been shut out since May 7, and kept that streak alive in the ninth against Thielbar. The first three batters Thielbar faced reached on hits, with Cole Figueroa's single getting Scranton on the board at 7-1. But a strikeout, a pop out, and fly out ended the rally and the game.
