Buffalo needed answers after a disappointing loss in game one of a doubleheader in Lehigh Valley. Jeff Francis and Matt Hague stepped to the plate (and mound).

Hague had three more hits and Francis delivered six innings of one-run baseball as the Bisons closed out Tuesday's doubleheader at Coca-Cola Park with a 3-1 victory over the IronPigs. The victory gave the Herd a split of the twinbill as Lehigh Valley won by the same score in the completion of a suspended game from Tuesday night.

Francis pitched a stellar game, throwing six innings and posting four strikeouts while giving up one earned run on four hits. The southpaw's only blemish on the night was an RBI single in the third inning. He retired his last 10 batters faced in his second victory with the Bisons.

Bobby Korecky came in and closed down the game, throwing one inning of one-hit baseball while locking down his third save of the season.

Hague went 3-for-4 in the second game, contributing with an RBI single in the third inning of game two to temporarily extend the lead to two runs. Hague finished the two-game set going 3-for-7 with one walk while keeping his .350 average at the top of the league. Later in the inning, Andy Burns reached on an error to score the second run of the inning and take a three-run lead.

The Herd could have brought home two victories on Tuesday, but they were plagued by doubleplays in the first game. Buffalo grounded into four twin-killings - three inning-ending - which could have altered the game's outcome.

The inning-ending double play that was most notable was in the sixth inning. In that frame, Buffalo got the first two base runners on base, only to end the inning on a Hague doubleplay. Hague finished with his second consecutive hitless game, but carried the Buffalo offense in game two.

Anthony Vasquez silenced the Herd on Monday's portion of the suspended game one. The IronPigs southpaw threw four innings of one-hit baseball before being replaced by Chad Billingsley, who turned in yet another Lehigh Valley pitching performance. Billingsley threw three innings, while allowing three hits and one run, while picking up his second win of the season in the process.

Felix Doubront took the loss in game one, his third of the season. He gave up two earned runs in three innings of work. Andrew Albers relieved Doubront and only gave up one run over 4.1 innings pitched.

Buffalo will continue its series with the IronPigs on Wednesday, then will begin a three-game series at Syracuse, beginning on Friday. Wednesday's game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m.
