LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (33-34) scored just one run on 13 hits in a 3-1 loss to the Gwinnett Braves (32-33) on Wednesday at Louisville Slugger Field. The Braves took the series 2-1, and Louisville finished its seven-game homestand 2-5.

Gwinnett struck first, plating a run on three singles and a stolen base as third baseman Adonis Garcia put the Braves on the board with a two-out RBI single in the first inning.

However, Louisville responded in the home half of the first as second baseman Irving Falu hit a ground-rule double to left-center and came around to score on an RBI single by first baseman Steve Selsky.

The Bats collected four hits and a walk over the next four frames, but could not capitalize as they stranded all five baserunners.

Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang did not factor in the decision and allowed eight hits and one walk, but just one earned run with one strikeout in four innings.

In the sixth, Garcia drove in his second run of the game, with an RBI ground out, to plate Eury Perez, who reached on a pinch-hit single earlier in the frame, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Righty Dylan Axelrod (L, 3-5, 4.44) allowed two earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout in six innings of work. Right-hander Nick Christiani relieved Axelrod in the seventh, making his 178th appearance with the Bats, breaking Brian Shackelford's all-time mark of 177 appearances by a Bats pitcher.

Gwinnett made it a 3-1 game in the top of the eighth as Perez singled to open the frame, stole second (his league-leading 28th stolen base), moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by left fielder Eric Young Jr. and scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jose Peraza.

Louisville could not muster a comeback and right-hander Ryan Kelly (S, 4) worked a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for his fourth save of the season.

Offensively, Louisivlle collected 13 hits on the day, with left fielder Jose Constanza, third baseman Josh Satin and Selsky each turning in a trio of hits. The Bats went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, though, and stranded 11 baserunners.

The Braves' two, three and four hitters did the majority of the damage for Gwinnett as Peraza, catcher Christian Bethancourt and Garcia each had two hits in the contest.

Louisville is off on Thursday, and will head to Rochester to take on the Red Wings Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Keyvius Sampson (1-0, 4.50era) is slated to take the mound for Louisville, while southpaw Taylor Rogers (6-4, 3.23) is scheduled to get the start for the Red Wings.
