
Thiessen to AHL, Haddad Returns to Nailers

Wheeling, WV-The Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a couple of roster moves. Goalie Brad Thiessen has been called up to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. Forward Joey Haddad has been assigned to the Nailers by WBS.
Haddad, 21, appeared in 19 games with the Penguins this season, posting three assists and 22 penalty minutes. He recorded his first AHL point in his first AHL game, on November 19th at Hartford. He registered a two-assist effort on December 26th vs. Albany.
Haddad recorded 11 points (5+6) in 12 games with the Nailers prior to his AHL recall on November 15th.
The native of Sydney, Nova Scotia finished third in points over his last two junior seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL). He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 18, 2008.
Thiessen, 23, is coming off of his first professional shutout which he posted on Saturday against the Johnstown Chiefs. He stopped 26 shots in improving his record with the Nailers to 8-3-0 in 12 appearances. Thiessen has won his last five starts, and currently ranks fifth in the ECHL in goals against average (2.67) and leads the league with a.919 save percentage.
Thiessen appeared in four contests with the Baby Penguins this season, posting a record of 1-3-0, a 2.50 goals against average, and a save percentage of.915. He earned his first AHL victory on November 13th against the Albany River Rats, posting a season-high 38 saves and allowing just one goal.
Thiessen was named a Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalist and Hockey East Player of the Year after the conclusion of the 2008-09 campaign. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on April 3, 2009.
The Nailers will be travelling to Cincinnati Tuesday night for a game against the Cyclones at US Bank Arena at 7:30 before returning home next weekend with three more home game in three days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Wheeling's next home game is Friday night against the Toledo Walleye on WTRF Friday Family 4-pack night. Next Saturday against Johnstown is Nailers Ski-Cap night for the first 2500 fans courtesy of WesBanco. The Nailers last home game before the All-Star Break is next Sunday at 3:05 against Elmira featuring an open-skate after the game with the Nailers players.
