
Wheeling's Thiessen Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Wheeling Nailers rookie Brad Thiessen is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 4-10.
The 23 year old, who is under contract to the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, went 2-0-0 and earned his first career shutout by making 26 saves in a 3-0 win against Johnstown on Jan. 9. Thiessen turned aside 17 shots in a 4-2 win over Cincinnati on Jan. 8 and is 5-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of.933 in his last five starts.
He is 8-3-0 and leads the league with a.919 save percentage while ranking fifth with a goals-against average of 2.67 in 12 games for the Nailers. He was reassigned to the American Hockey League on Monday where he is 1-3-0 with a goals-against average of 2.50 and a save percentage of.915 in four games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Aldergrove, British Columbia native played three seasons at Northeastern University from 2006-09 and was 52-46-12 with nine shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.40 and a save percentage of.922. He was named the Hockey East Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2008-09 after going 25-12-4 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.12 and a save percentage of.931.
