The Phillie Phanatic, the famed mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies, will visit Chukchansi Park on Saturday, August 16th when the Grizzlies kick off their final homestand of the season against Las Vegas. The Phanatic, presented in the Central Valley by Claim Jumper Restaurant, debuted in 1978 at Veteran's Stadium when the Phils played the Chicago Cubs. Since then, he has been given the title "baseball's best mascot" by sports analysts and publications across the country.
Though much younger, hometown favorite Parker was named the country's best mascot by GameOps.com in 2007, and is regarded as the greatest mascot that Minor League Baseball has to offer. Though Parker has the utmost respect for a character like the Phanatic that "paved the way", the Grizzlies believe their furry friend can hold his own with anyone.
"The Phanatic is the most well-known mascot, but we think Parker will give him a run for his money," said Grizzlies director of mascot relations Bradley Collins, who is also Parker's best friend. "There will be a lot of collaborative skits that showcase the skills of both mascots and the fans will vote for their favorites with their applause."
The fun on Saturday night won't just be limited to the mascots however, as one lucky fan will be selected for a unique prize. Beginning today at FresnoGrizzlies.com, fans can purchase a four-pack of Field Level Reserved tickets for Saturday night's game for just $20. One fan that takes advantage of the "At Bat With Mac" Pack will be chosen at random on the 16th for a batting practice session with Grizzlies slugger Scott McClain before an upcoming contest, as well as four 600 Club tickets to that night's game. McClain is the active, career home run leader in all of Minor League Baseball, and one of the most popular players in Grizzlies history.
The Fresno Grizzlies welcome the Phillie Phanatic and the Las Vegas 51's to Chukchansi Park on Saturday, August 16th when they kick off their final nine home games of the 2008 season.
