Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Joe Koshansky hit a grand slam and Colorado Springs scored eight times in the seventh inning to propel the Sky Sox to their fourth win in five tries against Portland Monday night in front of 2,527 fans at Security Service Field.
Adam Bass (2-2) entered a tied game in the seventh inning and immediately coaxed Chris Frey to ground out to the short stop. The Portland reliever then allowed the next four Sky Sox batters to reach base before being pulled after Christian Colonel's bases-loaded single broke up the tie.
Joe Thatcher came into pitch to Koshansky with the bases loaded and promptly served up a mammoth shot off the batter's eye that broke the game open. The Sky Sox slugging first baseman reclaimed the PCL RBI lead with the blast.
Josh Towers picked improved his record to 6-7, picking up the win in relief despite giving up the lead in the top half of the seventh inning. The former starter allowed three consecutive hits, capped by a game-tying double off the bat of Paul McAnulty.
Valerio De Los Santos allowed two runs in his five innings, both unearned.
Doug Bernier gave the Sky Sox their first lead with a two-run shot that broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning. The home run was the eighth of the season for the shortstop; he came into the 2008 season having hit just ten home runs in his entire Minor League career.
Chad Reineke pitched five innings for the Beavers, allowing four runs. He struck out three and walked one.
The Sky Sox will host Tucson Tuesday night for the first of a four-game set. Josh Hall (1-2, 5.00) takes the hill for the Sky Sox while the Sidewinders will throw Matt Torra (3-3, 4.47) for the 7:05 MDT game.
