COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Joe Koshansky's grand slam highlighted an eight-run seventh inning that was the deciding factor as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Portland Beavers 12-4 Monday night at Security Service Field.

With the game tied 4-4, the Sky Sox (61-62) took over in the decisive seventh, sending 14 batters to the plate against three different Portland pitchers - this just a half-inning after the Beavers tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the inning.

Doug Bernier hit his second home run of the series and Mike McCoy was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored as the Sky Sox out-hit Portland 14-12 to take a 4-1 victory in the series with their North Division rivals.

After a two-run homer from Bernier in the fifth left them trailing 4-2, the Beavers (62-59) battled back in the top of the seventh to knot things at 4-4 thanks to a two-run double from Paul McAnulty.

In the bottom of the inning, however, Christian Colonel gave the Sky Sox the lead with an RBI single with the bases loaded against reliever Adam Bass and, one batter later, Koshansky greeted reliever Joe Thatcher with his 25th home run of the season.

When the dust settled, reliever Josh Towers (6-7), despite allowing McAnulty's two-run double, was credited with the win, while Bass (2-2) suffered the loss after being charged with four runs on three hits and a walk over 1 1/3 innings of work.

The Beavers return to PGE Park to open a five-game series with Fresno Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Portland Trail Blazers forward Channing Frye will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Tuesday's homestand opener ... Peter Ciofrone logged a single to extend his road-hitting streak to 27 games. He has also reached base in 33 consecutive games away from PGE Park ... before the game, the Beavers signed veteran catcher J.D. Closser and transferred catcher Clinton Naylor to Class A Eugene.
