(Binghamton, NY) - The Sea Dogs scored eight runs with two outs in the eighth inning to complete a 4-game sweep of the Binghamton Mets, 13-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,886 at NYSEG Stadium.
Portland had 10 straight runners reach base safely after Robert Paulk retired the first two batters of the eighth. The Sea Dogs picked up nine hits and one walk, including two hits by Sean Danielson off Paulk.
Matt Goodson (1-0) earned his first win of the season in the series finale. The righty hurled five strong innings, yielding one run on five hits and fanned five.
Portland's entire lineup had at least one hit - eight had multi-hit games and four had multi-RBI performances.
Tony Granadillo, Jay Johnson, Ryan Khoury and Andrew Pinckney each knocked in two runs. Khoury went 4-for-5 and drove in the final run with a double.
Jose Sanchez (1-1) suffered the loss for the B-Mets. He worked the first 5 and 1/3 innings, surrendering eight hits and three runs. Paulk pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing eight runs on nine hits.
Binghamton actually led 1-0 on Ambiorix Concepcion's RBI single in the second inning. Portland tied the game in the third on Khoury's RBI single and took the lead for good in the fourth on Johnson's run-scoring fielder's choice. In the sixth inning, Portland scored three 2-out runs off Sanchez and Edgar Alfonzo. The Sea Dogs scored 11 runs with two outs and 31 during the 4-game series.
Portland's 21 hits tied a franchise record - they had 21 on June 22, 2007 at New Hampshire. The 8-game winning streak is their longest since they won 10 straight in 2006.
The Sea Dogs return home on Monday night to take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) in the start of a 3-game series.
Notes...Portland improved to 9-1 on the road (lone loss in extra-innings)...The Sea Dogs hit .328 with runners-in-scoring position during the season - the Mets hit .128.
