
New Britain defeats Trenton 5-4 in 12 innings

(New Britain, CT)- New Britain 1B Brock Peterson hit the game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning to give the Rock Cats a 5-4 win over the Thunder in 12 innings on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. Even with the loss, the Thunder still won three out of the four games in the series. Peterson connected on the game-winning hit off of Thunder reliever Josh Schmdit (1-1). Peterson's hit came with runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs in the 12th inning. New Britain (7-8) reliever Kyle Astelton (1-0) pitched a scoreless 12th inning for the win.
Trenton (10-8) tied the game at 4-4 with two outs in the 9th inning. With runners at 1st and 3rd base and two outs, CF Matt Carson hit a high chopper off of home plate down the third base line for an infield single.
The Thunder squandered a 3-1 lead in the loss. Down 1-0 in the 4th inning, the Thunder plated two runs to take a 2-1 lead. With two outs in the inning and runners at 1st and 2nd base, C P.J. Pilittere connected on an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, 2B Kevin Russo walked with the bases loaded to give Trenton a 2-1 lead. The Thunder made it 3-1 in the 5th inning on an RBI double by Carson. New Britain cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 6th inning on a solo home run by RF Eric Lis. They tied the game in the 6th on an error by Russo. New Britain took a 4-3 lead in the 8th inning on an RBI double by LF Matt Moses.
Thunder starting pitcher Dan McCutchen went 7 IP and received a no-decision. He yielded six hits and three runs (two earned). He struck out three and did not walk a batter. New Britain starting pitcher Ryan Mullins went 6 IP and gave up 8 hits and 3 run (1 earned). Thunder C P.J. Pilittere had a season-high four hits in the loss.
The Thunder will head to Binghamton on Monday night to start a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets, Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. LHP Phil Coke (0-1, 7.07) will start for Trenton against Binghamton RHP Bobby Parnell (0-1, 5.40).
