The Aftermath: Storm Wins Shootout Over Buccaneers

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at the Viaero Center. Graham Gamache, Tanner Adams, and Sebastian Törnqvist netted goals for the Storm during the opening three periods. Artemi Nizameyev and Evan Werner scored for Tri-City in the shootout. Niklas Erickson posted his first career win in goal for the Storm. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow night at the Viaero Center in another battle against Des Moines. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.

Graham Gamache scored his fifth goal of the season with less than two minutes to play in Friday's 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead in the matchup. Kieran Cebrian and Evan Werner each notched an assist on the goal. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 10-7 in the 1st period, and carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.

Tanner Adams netted a powerplay goal at 8:06 of the 2nd period to give the Storm a two-goal lead. Adams' goal was his fourth of the year, and was assisted by Graham Gamache and Cale Ashcroft. The Storm outshot the Buccaneers 13-4 in the 2nd period, and Friday's 3rd period began with Tri-City leading 2-0 in the game.

Sebastian Törnqvist scored his fourth goal of the season less than one minute into the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 3-0 lead. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Trevor Connelly and Ryan Smith. Des Moines scored twice in less than one minute to cut the Storm's lead to one goal. Joey Muldowney scored at 1:43 of the 3rd period, and Christian Kocsis scored at 2:19 of the period to bring the game to a 3-2 score. With an extra attacker on the ice, Des Moines tied the game with just over one minute remaining in the 3rd period. Lubomir Kupco deflected a long-range shot past Niklas Erickson to force overtime. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 10-8 in the 3rd period.

Tri-City outshot Des Moines 4-1 in the overtime period, but Friday's contest would require a shootout to determine a winner. Artemi Nizameyev and Evan Werner each scored during the shootout to secure the win for the Storm. Niklas Erickson made saves on Christian Kocsis and Henry Bartle in the shootout. Erickson recorded his first career win in net for Tri-City after recording 17 saves on 20 shots. Jan Korec recorded the loss in goal for Des Moines after making 34 saves on 37 shots. Tri-City snapped a three-game winless streak, and improved to 6-8-0-0 in the victory. Attendance for Friday's game at the Viaero Center was 1,730.
