November 18, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Fargo Force News Release
The Fargo Force have acquired Girts Silkalns from the Des Moines Buccaneers. The trade involves a 2023 Phase 2 Entry Draft - 4th round pick going from Fargo to the Bucs, while the Force receive a 2023 Phase 2 Entry Draft - 7th round draft pick in return.
Silkalns is a 6'3, 195 lb forward from Latvia. He is in his 1st season in North America, and had 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points in his 15 games with the Bucs. Silkalns played the majority of the 21-22 season with HK Riga, where he led his team in scoring, racking up 40 points in 60 games, scoring an even 20 goals and 20 assists.
He also represented Latvia at the World Junior Championship last year, where he was a teammate of former Force player Felikss Gavars.
"We are excited to add Silkalns to our forward group", said Force GM, Cary Eades. "He's a big body that utilizes his size to win puck battles and create scoring chances. "Since the start of the season, we have lost 3 forwards, and have not added anyone. We now have 14 forwards - we dress 13 - so we feel this is a good number to give us the depth to navigate the long, grinding 62 game USHL season".
The Fargo Force return to play at Scheels Arena for a 3 game Thanksgiving Weekend series, starting on Wednesday, Nov. 23 with Drinksgiving, followed by $5 Black Friday tickets on Friday, Nov. 25 and Honor Flight Night on Saturday, Nov 26!
