Thanksgiving Eve Sends K-Wings to Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH.- The K-Wings are back in Cincinnati for Thanksgiving Eve as they look to snap a three-game skid taking on the Cyclones.

Last Time Out:

Saturday's game stayed tied for the majority of regulation, but a late third period tally fom the Cyclones pushed Cincinnati past the K-Wings 2-1. The home side struck first, scoring 1:47 into regulation when Myles Powell netted his seventh goal of the season. Kalamazoo's penalty kill evened things up just about midway through the period. Colin Jacobs caused a turnover in the left corner, before connecting with Chris Collins in front of the net. Collins' tally was his second short-handed goal of the season. A back and forth game remained tied until Anthony Florentino wristed a rebound past Jake Hildebrand, putting the Cyclones ahead for good.

All the Penalty Minutes:

Saturday's game in Cincinnati saw Kalamazoo and Cincinnati combine for 102 penalty minutes when the dust settled. The 102 penalty minutes is the second most minutes by a pair of teams in the ECHL this season. Only Wichita and Allen, who combined for 112 penalty minutes on October 20, have recorded more penalty minutes in a game this season. After the K-Wings and Cyclones multiple teams have combined for 90 this season.

Short-handed Leader:

Rookie Chris Collins netted a short-handed goal in the first period on Saturday night, giving him his second short-handed tally and fifth short-handed point of the season. The two short-handed goals is tied for the most among active skaters in the ECHL, and his five points leads the ECHL.

The goal was the K-Wings fifth short-handed goal of the season. With the tally the K-Wings have now scored as many short-handed goals this season as they scored all of last season.

Rescheduled Game:

Last Thursday's postponed game against the Toledo Walleye has been rescheduled to January 31. Puck drop will remain at 10:35 am at the Huntington Center.

Scouting the Cyclones:

Cincinnati heads into Wednesday night having won eight of their last ten games, including two over the K-Wings, and each of their last three. Forward Myles Powell heads into the week riding the longest scoring streak in the ECHL at five games. During the five-game streak Powell has totaled seven goals, including the opening goal on Saturday night. Powell is one of three Cyclones with seven goals this season, joining Justin Vaive and Brady Vail. Vail is tied with Alex Wideman for the team lead with 14 points. Right the two leaders is Vasili Glotov (3g, 10a) and Jesse Schultz (1g, 12a) tied for third with 13 points. Altogether the Cyclones have nine players who've surpassed the 10 point mark so far.

Between the pipes Michael Houser and Jonas Johansson has split time this season. Houser, who stopped 26 of 27 in Saturday's victory, has started seven games, posting a record of 5-1-1-0 to go along with a 1.86 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Jonas Johansson, the reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week, has started eight games, with a record of 5-2-1-0.

Upcoming:

Kalamazoo has two home games left in the month of November, hosting Fort Wayne on Friday night followed by Wheeling on Tuesday. Between the two home games Kalamazoo will head to Indy for a face-off with the Fuel.

Friday's contest at Wings Event Center is the K-Wings Salute to Service Night, honoring all first responders.
