Oilers Knock off Thunder on Thanksgiving Eve
November 21, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Wichita returned home on Wednesday night to host longtime rival, Tulsa, and fell by the final of 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena.
The game was almost a carbon copy of Tuesday night's meeting in Tulsa, where the Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 cushion, Wichita fought back into the game to tied it and the Oilers used a strong third period to skate away with the win.
Travis Brown tallied his fifth of the season while Jakob Stukel collected his third of the year.
The Oilers got on the board first at 6:33 of the opening period. Roman Ammirato caught a pass up the middle of the ice and went in all alone for the breakaway. He slid it through Dylan Wells to make it 1-0 and recorded his fourth of the season.
In the second, former Thunder forward Ryan Tesink made it 2-0 at 7:55 with his second of the year. Stukel cut the lead to one at 12:10 as he stayed with the play through the slot and beat Evan Fitzpatrick to make it 2-1. At 18:03, Brown scored on the power play with a one-timer from the left point and tied it at two.
Tulsa scored three-unanswered in the third to walk out with the victory. Tyler Soy registered the go-ahead goal at 3:34 as he tipped home a nice feed from Tesink. Scott Henegar made it 4-2 at 6:32 as he beat Wells from the right circle. Alex Kromm tacked on an empty-netter to make it 5-2.
Wichita has power play goals in four-straight and seven in its last six games. Steven Iacobellis added an assist to push his point-streak to nine games (5g, 5a). Ralph Cuddemi and Keoni Texeira each had assists as well for the Thunder.
The Thunder will travel to Independence on Friday night to face the Kansas City Mavericks on Black Friday starting at 7:05 p.m.
