Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Kyle Platzer tallied a goal and an assist, while Jaime Phillips made 31 saves on 33 shots to claim the 4-2 win for the Florida Everblades over the Norfolk Admirals at Scope Arena Wednesday night. Darik Angeli scored a goal for Norfolk. Norfolk now drops to (9-6-0-1, 19 Points) on the year.
Florida got on the board first with a power play goal from Derek Sheppard. Joe Cox gathered the puck in the right circle in the Norfolk end along the wall. Cox played the puck to the middle of the ice at the point for Jordan Southorn. Southorn played it into the left circle, where the puck was shot by Sheppard as it beat Ty Reichenbach on the right side to give Florida the 1-0 lead at 12:24 of the first period.
Florida added another goal with 3:04 to go in the first period. Florida got the puck at the red line which led to a two-on-one for the Everblades after a pass from Ben Masella started the breakout of their own zone. Masella passed the puck to Lorentz which, led to a two-on-one for Florida. Lorentz shot the puck, which was initially saved. The rebound fell directly to Mitch Vandergunst, who tapped the puck in back door to extend the lead for Florida to 2-0.
Florida extended their lead to three with a shorthanded goal from Kyle Platzer at 4:21 of the second period. Ty Reichenbach went to play the puck behind the net and had the puck stolen by Platzer, who skated from behind the net and placed it into the open net on the wraparound.
Norfolk got on the board with a goal early in the third period from Matt McMorrow. Norfolk held the puck in the Florida end which allowed them to cycle the puck around. Luke Nogard passed the puck from in the right circle to the right point for Jacob Graves. Graves shot the puck, and the puck was deflected in the slot by McMorrow to cut the Everblades lead to 3-1.
Norfolk would add another goal a little over a minute later. Florida turned the puck over just in front of the red line which allowed Taylor Cammarata to gain control of the puck and state into the Florida end. Cammarata skated into the left circle and dropped the pass back to Dominic Alberga. Alberga fed a pass from in the right circle to a streaking Darik Angeli, who shot the puck and beat Jamie Phillips to cut the Everblades lead to one at 4:35 of the third period.
Despite the Norfolk comeback effort the Everblades would once again extend their lead to two. Kyle Platzer won the faceoff in the Norfolk end. Platzer played the puck back to the point for Southorn. Southorn shot the puck and was initially saved, but the rebound fell right to Shane Walsh who knocked the rebound in to extend Florida's lead.
