Texas tames Houston

Houston, TX - The Texas Stars (33-21-3-4, 73 points) defeated the Houston Aeros (28-27-6-1, 63 points) 5-2 on Saturday night in front of 8,711 fans at the Toyota Center. Texas scored three goals in the first period and coasted to victory, improving to 7-1-0-1 against Houston this season. Defensemen Dan Jancevski and Andrew Hutchinson, as well as forwards Perttu Lindgren, Mathieu Tousignant and Francis Wathier, each scored as Texas improved to 16-11-2-2 on the road this year. Hutchinson posted two points, giving him 200 for his AHL career. Stars goalie Matt Climie (16-14-3) made 31 saves for his second straight win. Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz (12-12-0) suffered the defeat after failing to stop a Texas shot in the first period and was pulled before the opening period expired. The Stars return home to host San Antonio at 5:00 pm on Sunday.

The Stars opened the scoring just 2:04 into the game with a power-play goal. Left wing Francis Wathier tipped a Garrett Stafford shot from the left point, deflecting the puck past goalie Wade Dubielewicz for the 1-0 Texas lead. The Aeros answered back 1:20 later, tying the game 1-1. Defenseman Jamie Fraser scored off a rebound of a Jean-Michel Daoust shot at 3:24 for his fourth goal of the season. Texas regained its lead 1:41 later on Andrew Hutchinson's sixth goal of the season. Right wing Colton Sceviour set up the one-timer at 5:05, sending a cross-ice pass from the right-wing circle to the left-wing circle. Hutchinson's goal marked his 200th career point in the AHL. The Stars made it a 3-1 game at 14:38. Mathieu Beaudoin set up Mathieu Tousignant's third goal of the year. Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz was pulled after the goal, finishing the night without a save on three Texas shots. Barry Brust replaced Dubielewicz for the Aeros.

Texas increased its lead to 4-1 with the only goal of the second period. Francis Wathier set up defenseman Dan Jancevski in the left-wing circle of the Houston zone. Jancevski snapped a wrist shot between the legs of Brust for a power-play goal at 3:42. Greg Rallo also picked up an assist on Jancevski's second goal of the year.

In the third period, the Aeros trimmed the Texas lead to 4-2 after Matt Climie misplayed the puck in the Stars zone. Defenseman Jamie Sifers capitalized off the turnover, scoring a shorthanded goal at 15:43. Stars center Perrtu Lindgren scored an empty-net goal with 56 seconds left in regulation for the 5-2 final.

On Sunday, the Stars wrap up their three-games-in-three-nights weekend with the San Antonio Rampage at 5:00 PM at Cedar Park Center. Fans may purchase a $20.00 terrace level ticket for the game that includes an all-you-can eat pass for nachos, hot dogs, peanuts and soft drinks. FSN Southwest will also broadcast the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff on Sunday, February 28th.
